St Joseph Selling Home
Use a
Prayer to St Joseph to Sell Your Home Fast?
By Jeanette Joy Fisher
It may be frowned upon by average clergy members, but
praying and paying homage to St. Joseph is being used
every year by thousands of sellers when looking to sell
their homes. Although the practice is particularly common
in Italy, home sellers around the world go through a
rather precise ritual to seek Jesus' father's help to find
a buyer.
There isn't a great deal known about Joseph, Mary's
husband, even though he played a significant role in the
Christian birth story. It's commonly known that he was a
skilled carpenter and lived for many years in Nazareth,
but there are no records of his death, even though the
bible suggests that Joseph was alive when Jesus was twelve
years old.
Eventually, the Roman Catholic Church designated Joseph
the patron saint of workers, and he has his own feast
days. St. Joseph also became popular among
Spanish-speaking Catholics in the New World, as evidenced
by the various towns in the western United States named
San Jose, which is St. Joseph in Spanish.
Perhaps it was originally Joseph's carpentry skills that
brought him to be associated with helping people to sell
houses, although the exact origins of the ritual are
unclear. However, among believers, it's important to note
that Joseph was always able to use his homebuilding skills
to make sure that his son had a roof over his head.
Prayer to St Joseph Statue for
Selling Home
When petitioning St. Joseph for
help in selling a home, a believer is expected to bury a
small statue of the saint upside down in the ground,
facing away from the house but near the "For Sale" sign.
After the statue has been buried, a short but heartfelt
prayer is offered, asking Joseph's help in finding a
worthy buyer for the home.
If the ritual is followed to its ultimate completion, the
statue is dug up once the home has been sold and then
taken to the seller's new home, who then must place the
statue in a location of honor, in recognition of Joseph's
help in making the successful move possible. According to
some, failing to take that final step will have future
repercussions, making it difficult to sell the new home
when the seller decides to move again.
The unusual upside down burial of the statue is meant to
place the saint in a difficult position. It's assumed that
making Joseph suffer until the property has been sold will
give the saint a greater incentive for bringing about a
speedy sale. Prayers offered at the time of the statue's
burial should include an explanation of why the statue is
being buried upside down as well as a promise to dig up
it, return it to an upright position, and then to give it
a place of honor in the seller's new home.
Whether it's an effective sales strategy or not depends
upon which seller you talk to. However, there's no doubt
that thousands of people worldwide continue to make
rituals and prayers to St. Joseph a standard part of their
sales regimen every year.
